Lasse’s art is raw, untamed, and seeks a balance between the true and the surreal, the animalistic and the human, the concrete and the abstract, and the near and the distant.
Biography
Lasse Riisager was not originally meant to be an artist. He grew up in modest conditions in Northern Jutland, with his mother, father, and two brothers. He moved to Copenhagen in 2018 where he finalized his education as an engineer, but it quickly became clear that he was not thriving in a daily steady routine from 8-16. Instead, he began channelling his energy into painting where his raw and experimental nature started to emerge from his basement atelier in Nørrebro. These themes are evident in all of his works, which are as expressionistic and experimental - just as Lasse himself.
For Lasse, painting is primarily a series of questions, a curious and wandering movement through the unknown that makes us complex beings, more than just a body, regardless of where we come from and where we are headed. He has found the greatest answers in art, while many other questions remain unanswered, and some change over time. Lasse's greatest ambition is to continue asking questions and try to communicate them through his art.
